A first musical film experience for toddlers and preschoolers

Insects amaze us. Even the very first filmmakers were fascinated by the overwhelming grandeur of these small creatures. Under every square meter we find hundreds of itchy critters. Sweet, dirty, tiny, fascinating. We think we know them. Yet they continue to surprise us: Snails protesting against global warming by crawling away in their ‘home’ for up to three years. Elks who are so sensitive that they notice when a fly sits on their antlers. The tongues of flies are situated on their feet, but they can’t hear us. Crickets are caught for beautiful chirping contests but in group they transform into all-consuming killing colonies.

Cinema De Spiegel hints at the roots of cinema: from Lumière to the first artists' film experiments and scientific film material. In the treasure troves of film archives and museums, Cinema De Spiegel discovered old film clips in which insects play the leading role. The images are projected in different ways and on different screens. Plastic art objects, inspired by the wonderful world of insects, enrich the performance. A harpist and a violinist provide live musical and theatrical accompaniment. Cinema De Spiegel is there to surprise you with an astonishing multimedia ciné-concert.
