Voetvolk celebrates twenty years of artistic expression and adventure. Over that time, they have created 15 performances and toured in more than 100 cities across some 35 countries. In 2027, Voetvolk celebrates its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the dance company presents the group performance Impressions #1 at De Studio.

Impressions #1 connects Voetvolk’s past, present and future in an adventurous happening. Inspired by the interaction and counterpoint inherent to jazz, Voetvolk creates a performance in which dancers and musicians meet in a play of structure and improvisation.

A core group of performers from different periods of Voetvolk playfully dances to live music by the Ola Tunji quartet. The emphasis is on immediacy, collective risk and a heightened state of presence within a score that unfolds as it progresses. Fragments from earlier pieces are revisited as a living vocabulary: movement material from the past is placed in a new context through spontaneous composition and reactivated in the present to live music.

Impressions #1 draws from a rich repertoire of group pieces. The performers bring fragments from AH/HA (2014), The Sea Within (2018), Into The Open (2022), Nomadics (2023) and WASCO! (2024) into dialogue with music that is both innovative and rooted in the jazz tradition.
