ƔAZAL

ƔAZAL is a musical project, created by sonic architect Michiel Van Cleuvenbergen (Condor Gruppe). Drummer-percussionist Frederik Meulyzer (Stray Dogs, Hamster Axis of the One-Click Panther) and singer-vocalist Prisca - Agnes Nishimwe co-nourished this audio-visual design, coming to life as Ɣazal.

ƔAZAL’s first album rose from a series of aural sketches by Michiel; where Fred responded rhythmically, layering drums, percussive environments, and textural depth. Prisca merged vocals, exploring melodic ideas and lyrical fragments. Saxophone player Matti Willems joined, adding another smooth voice to Ɣazal’s soundscape.

The result blends elements of ambient, dub, jazz and electronics. Unfolding motions that drift between retro- and neo-soul. Poetry and Rhythm with analogue effects in ‘90s Bristol. Think of Massive Attack in the mix with Burial and Makaya Mccraven.

The video artwork by Michiel on the title track, Time Travels, extends the atmosphere into a visual dimension.
