Sam De Nef is a Belgian singer-songwriter and composer from Antwerp. Known for his introspective songwriting and timeless folk sound, Sam creates music that blends emotional depth with sparse, atmospheric arrangements. His work is often compared to that of Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, and Elliot Smith, while maintaining a distinct and original voice.
After his time as frontman of the indie band Danny Blue, Sam launched his solo career with the EP Lonely Day, Crowded Year (2020). His debut album Dawn / Dusk (2022, Unday Records) received critical acclaim for its warm, nostalgic storytelling and collaborations with artists such as Tenci and Camille Camille. The album was co-produced by Pieter-Jan Decraene and features contributions from musicians in the Belgian alternative scene, including Nicolas Rombouts, Justine Bourgeus (Tsar B), and James De Graef (Loverman).
Sam’s live performances have captivated audiences at festivals and venues such as Pukkelpop, Boomtown, Ancienne Belgique, Eurosonic, and Folkfestival Dranouter. With a focus on emotional honesty, lyrical subtlety, and musical restraint, Sam De Nef continues to evolve as one of Belgium’s most promising voices in contemporary folk.
