Youran

Youran 揺籃, the Japanese word for “cradle,” is Joachim Badenhorst’s latest project. He has assembled a unique ensemble—a group of musicians who play an eclectic mix of instruments, such as taiko, koto, trumpet, electronics, trombone, guitar, reed instruments, and more..

The project originated from live improvisational shows at the Margarinefabriek and the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam. Recordings from these concerts were later combined with studio sessions and formed the basis for the self-titled debut album.

Youran explores the tension between vulnerability and strength, silence and intensity. The group creates a unique and compelling listening experience in which space, sound, and emotion merge into a continuous process of change and discovery.
