Aram. Poetry in Music

The brand-new trio Aram blends poetry, captivating melodies, and subtle percussion into an enchanting sound. With roots in diverse musical traditions, the trio creates a refined ensemble performance centered on listening, improvisation, and mutual inspiration.

The Persian word "aram" means rest, calm, silence, and peace. That atmosphere serves as the common thread running through this enchanting concert, during which the trio also presents its debut album. Iranian musician Shahab Azinmehr captivates the audience with his masterful playing on the tar and setar, as well as with his warm, velvety voice. Derya Türkan, one of the foremost players of the Turkish kemençe, bridges the gap between centuries-old Ottoman traditions and contemporary world music with great sensitivity. Percussionist Robbe Kieckens adds a rich rhythmic depth to this, weaving diverse musical influences into a single, inspired musical language.

Aram. Poetry in Music is the second musical event in the "Klanken van de Steden" series, a project that introduces you to the musical culture of various immigrant communities in Antwerp and Brussels.
