CEIBO volgt surfers Pacha Luque Light en Lucy Small op een indrukwekkende reis door Ecuador. Onderweg ontmoeten ze lokale vrouwen die een diepe connectie hebben met hun omgeving en gemeenschap en die een urgente milieustrijd die voeren. Wanneer Pacha opnieuw contact maakt met haar Ecuadoraanse roots, begint ze haar identiteit ook echt anders te zien. De film laat zien hoe persoonlijke en collectieve verandering hand in hand gaan.

Van de strijd voor landrechten in de Andes en het Amazonegebied, tot het beschermen van het mariene ecosysteem rond de Galapagoseilanden – en het verhaal van Ecuador’s eerste olympische surfer die haar plek opeist in de surfwereld. De film belicht enkele van de meest prangende ecologische en sociale uitdagingen van vandaag. Geregisseerd door Maddie Meddings en Lucy Small, en gecoproduceerd door Pacha Light, brengt deze documentaire een intieme en visueel krachtige ode aan samenleven met de natuur.

Deze speciale vertoning in Antwerpen is de BeNeLux première van CEIBO, mogelijk gemaakt in samenwerking met Haven Surf, Wind & Watersport Vlaanderen en The Fieldwork. Na de film gaan filmmakers en hoofdpersonages Pacha Light, Lucy Small en Maddie Meddings in gesprek over het maakproces, hun avonturen in  Ecuador en de impact van hun werk.

De vertoning maakt deel uit van een internationale tour die niet alleen bewustzijn wil creëren, maar ook concrete actie wil stimuleren. De volledige opbrengst van deze Antwerpse screening gaat naar de vier grassroots organisaties die aan de film meewerkten. De makers maakten het Ceibo Impact Plan op, een digitaal platform rond deze vier organisaties dat de verhalen uit de film vertalen naar blijvende, tastbare verandering.

CEIBO follows surfers Pacha Luque Light and Lucy Small on a powerful journey across Ecuador, where they meet and learn from women deeply connected to their surroundings and communities who face urgent environmental struggle. As Pacha reconnects with her Ecuadorian roots, she also begins to redefine her identity, revealing how personal and collective transformation are intertwined.

From the land rights movements in the Andes and the Amazon, to the fight for the Galapagos marine ecosystems, and the legacy of Ecuador’s first Olympic surfer carving out space for women in sport. The film sheds light on some of the most pressing ecological and social challenges of our time. Directed by Maddie Meddings and Lucy Small, and co-produced by Pacha Light, this documentary is an intimate and visually striking exploration of coexistence with nature.

This special screening in Antwerp marks the BeNeLux premiere of CEIBO and is made possible in collaboration with Haven Surf, Wind & Watersport Vlaanderen & The Fieldwork. Following the film, the filmmakers and protagonists Pacha Light, Lucy Small, and Maddie Meddings will be present to discuss the making of the film, their journey through Ecuador, and the ongoing impact of their work.

This screening is part of an international tour designed not only to raise awareness, but also to spark concrete action. All proceeds from the Antwerp screening will be donated to the four grassroots organisations that collaborated on the film. The filmmakers created the Ceibo Impact Plan, a digital platform around these organisations that aims to turn the stories told in the film into lasting, tangible change.
