In 2018 won de Rotterdamse architect Enzo Valerio een ontwerpwedstrijd voor een multifunctioneel paviljoen in het Pinetum Blijdenstein. De langverwachte bouw van een nieuw paviljoen in deze botanische tuin van Hilversum ontvouwt zich op het ritme van de natuur. Met af en toe de hulp van de tuinman en onder de oplettende blikken van buurtbewoners trekken de architecten een overall en werkschoenen aan en nemen zij de rol van bouwers op zich. Gedurende een jaar volgt hun werk het ongedwongen tempo van het dagelijkse leven in de tuin.

Regisseur Juan Benavides volgde het proces tijdens vijftien bezoeken over vier seizoenen. AT THE GARDEN'S PACE is een meeslepende, observerende documentaire die het bouwproces transformeert tot een meditatieve ervaring. Met technieken uit de slow cinema – lange takes, brede kaders, statische frames en een originele soundtrack – ontvouwt de film zich als een naadloze sequentie en nodigt de kijker uit het paviljoen te beleven alsof men een lange wandeling door de tuin maakt.

Enzo Valerio is aanwezig tijdens de introductie en Q&A bij de eerste vertoning van de film op 2 december 2025.

In tijden van ecologische en maatschappelijke transitie is publieke ruimte nooit neutraal. De tentoonstelling Tamed Nature, vanaf 17 september te zien in het Vlaams Architectuurinstituut, onderzoekt hoe groene stedelijke ruimtes dragers van macht, geschiedenis en sociale spanningen zijn. Door de lens van de stad Antwerpen wordt de gelaagde geschiedenis van stedelijk groen verkend.

In 2018, Rotterdam-based architect Enzo Valerio won a design competition for a multifunctional pavilion in the Pinetum Blijdenstein. The long-awaited construction of this new pavilion in the Hilversum botanical garden unfolds in the rhythm of nature. With occasional help from the gardener and under the watchful eyes of local residents, the architects put on overalls and work boots, taking on the role of builders themselves. For a year, their work follows the unhurried pace of daily life in the garden.

Director Juan Benavides documented the process over fifteen visits across four seasons. AT THE GARDEN'S PACE is an immersive, observational documentary that transforms the construction process into a meditative experience. Using slow cinema techniques—long takes, wide frames, static shots, and an original soundtrack—the film unfolds as a seamless sequence, inviting the viewer to experience the pavilion as if taking a long walk through the garden.

Enzo Valerio will be present for the introduction and Q&A at the film’s first screening on 2 December 2025.

The exhibition Tamed Nature, on view from 17 September at the Flanders Architecture Institute, explores how green urban spaces carry power, history, and social tensions. Through the lens of the city of Antwerp, it examines the layered history of urban greenery.
