LÁSKY JEDNÉ PLAVOVLÁSKY (LOVES OF A BLONDE)

LOVES OF A BLONDE, waarmee Tjechoslawaaks regisseur Miloš Forman internationaal doorbrak, is een aandoenlijke Czech New Wave-film vol pijnlijke obeservatiehumor.

Met een groot tekort aan mannen in een fabrieksstadje voelt de jonge, onschuldige Andula zich gehinderd in haar zoektocht naar liefde. Tijdens een dansfeest wordt Andula verleid door de pianist van het orkest. Ze beslist om hem naar Praag te volgen, waar duidelijk wordt dat de nacht die ze samen doorbrachten voor hem niet hetzelfde betekende als voor haar.

Forman baseerde LOVES OF A BLONDE op een ontmoeting die hij jaren daarvoor had in Praag, waar hij doelloos rondreed en een jonge vrouw zag zeulen met een zware koffer. Ze kwam uit een dorpje buiten de stad op zoek naar de jonge ingenieur die haar een nieuw leven had beloofd, maar bij aankomst bleek hij haar bedrogen te hebben. Forman liet zich inspireren door de ervaring en creëerde met LOVES OF A BLONDE een tedere en humoristische kijk op Andula’s zoektocht, waar de eerste ontdekkingen van de liefde leiden tot onvermijdelijke teleurstellingen. Een film die werkt als subtiele gedragsstudie vol rake dialogen, waarbij Forman ongezouten kritiek spuit op de banaliteit van de Tsjechische middenklasse. Tegelijkertijd vertelt LOVES OF A BLONDE ook een verhaal dat perfect het generatieconflict in het Tsjechoslowakije van de jaren '60 weergeeft.

LOVES OF A BLONDE, Czech director Miloš Forman’s international breakthrough, is a touching Czech New Wave film filled with awkward observational humour.

Dealing with a great shortage of men in a factory town, the young and innocent Andula feels hindered in her search for love. At a dance party, Andula is seduced by the orchestra’s pianist. She decides to follow him to Prague, where it becomes clear that the night they spent together didn’t mean the same to him as it did to her.

Forman based LOVES OF A BLONDE on a meeting he had years before in Prague, where he was driving around and saw a woman dragging a heavy suitcase. She came from a village outside of town looking for the young engineer who had promised her a new life, but turned out to have lied. Forman was inspired by the experience and created a tender and humorous view of Andula’s search, where the first discoveries of love lead to inevitable disappointments. LOVES OF A BLONDE is a subtle behavioural study full of great dialogue, used by Forman to criticise the banality of the Czech middle class. At the same time, the film also tells a story that perfectly resembles the generational conflict in Czechoslovakia of the 60s.
