In the early 1970s, John Lennon and Yoko Ono traded their stately country estate for a modest apartment in the Village. There they lived like art students: records scattered across the floor, creative clutter everywhere, and in the background an endless stream of images and sound. For Lennon, television was not just a distraction but “a window to the world.”

It’s no surprise, then, that Kevin Macdonald dives headfirst into this eclectic current in ONE TO ONE: JOHN & YOKO. Like a restless channel-hopper, the director of THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND (2006) and WHITNEY (2018) jumps between concert footage, TV commercials, news reports, Vietnam, sitcoms, and talk shows—reconstructing the flood of images that seeped into Lennon and Ono’s bedroom. The soundtrack, remastered by Sean Ono Lennon, breathes new life into the performances.
