ANTWERP QUEER ARTS FESTIVAL

Onze jaarlijkse afspraak met het Antwerp Queer Arts Festival kan ook deze zomer niet ontbreken. Lokale performers en internationaal talent werken samen in een mix van alle mogelijke kunstvormen, waaronder film. Op 8, 14 en 22 augustus neemt AQAF onze zalen over.

▪ Naar goede gewoonte brengt AQAF SHORTS een zinderende en eclectische kortfilmcompilatie op het grote scherm.

▪ SHAKEDOWN, gefilmd met de tederheid van een home movie, vangt de voortstuwende, droomachtige sfeer van de gelijknamige lesbische stripclub in LA opgericht door en voor Afro-Amerikaanse vrouwen. De film wordt voorafgegaan door SAFE SPACE, een compilatie YouTube clips van ballroom performances uit de vroege jaren negentig.

▪ THE LAST YEAR OF DARKNESS biedt een intieme blik op de underground clubscene van Chengdu, China, door de ogen van vijf jongeren die hun toevlucht vinden in de bijna verdwenen club Funky Town. In deze neonverlichte ruimte zoeken ze vrijheid, liefde en escapisme.

Antwerp Queer Arts Festival is back on our programme this year. Local performers and international talent work together in a mix of all possible art forms, including film. On 8, 14 and 22 August, AQAF takes over our cinema.

▪ As usual, AQAF SHORTS presents a thrilling and eclectic short film compilation on the big screen.

▪ SHAKEDOWN, filmed with the tenderness of a home movie, captures the propellent, dreamy atmosphere of the eponymous lesbian strip club in LA, founded by and for Afro-American women. The film will be preceded by SAFE SPACE, a compilation of YouTube clips of ballroom performances from the early 90s.

▪ THE LAST YEAR OF DARKNESS offers an intimate look in the underground club scene of Chengdu, China, through the eyes of five youngsters seeking shelter in the fading club Funky Town. In his neon lit space, they seek freedom, love and escapism.
