ARCHITECTURE ON FILM

Vanaf 2025 slaan De Cinema en het Vlaams Architectuurinstituut (VAi) de handen in elkaar voor een unieke reeks van maandelijkse filmavonden onder de titel “Architecture on Film”. Elke eerste dinsdag van de maand word je tijdens een film met inleiding meegetrokken in de wereld van architectuur en film, waar gebouwen personages worden, steden de achtergrond vormen, en ontwerp de verhalen mee vormgeeft. De films worden steeds vertoond in de originele taalversie met Engelse ondertitels, de inleidingen zijn in het Engels gesproken. Voor wie een herkansing wil: de derde dinsdag van de maand is er nog een vertoning, maar dan zonder inleiding.
In mei onderzoeken we de wisselwerking tussen stad, geestelijke gezondheid en zorgvoorzieningen met 2023 Gouden Beer winnaar SUR L'ADAMANT van Nicholas Philibert.
Juni draait om de vraag wat onze manier van bouwen zegt over wie we zijn. En wat blijft er over wanneer ales instort? We vertonen ARCHITECTON, een prachtige poëtische studie van de gelauwerde filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky (GUNDA), waarin beton de hoofdrol speelt — als fundament van beschaving én als stille getuige van haar ondergang.

From 2025, De Cinema and the Flemish Architecture Institute (VAi) are joining forces for a unique series of monthly film evenings under the title ‘Architecture on Film’. Every first Tuesday of the month, a film with introduction will draw you into the world of architecture and film, where buildings become characters, cities form the background, and design helps shape the stories. The films are always shown in the original language version with English subtitles, the introductions are in English. For those who want a second chance: there is another screening on the third Tuesday of the month, but without introductions.
In May, we research the interaction betweenn city, mental health and care facilities with 2023 Golden Bear winner SUR L'ADAMANT by Nicholas Philibert.
June is about the question what our way of building says about who we are. And what remains if everything collapses? We screen ARCHITECTON, a beautifully poetic study of the awarded filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky (GUNDA) where concrete plays the main part — as the foundation of civilisation and as a silent witness of her downfall.
