“Saving the world from witches is a tall order for a boy they've turned into a mouse!” Dat kan je wel zeggen, maar geen opdracht lijkt te groot voor de jonge Luke. Na het overlijden van zijn ouders gaat Luke bij zijn oma Helga wonen. Helga blijkt een gepensioneerd heksenjager te zijn en vertelt Luke over het bestaan van heksen en hoe hij hen kan herkennen en ontlopen. Wanneer Helga diabetes krijgt, trekken zij en Luke naar een hotel aan zee om te herstellen. Toeval wil dat er ook een conventie van heksen aanwezig is in het hotel, die een plot voorbereiden om alle kinderen in Engeland te doen verdwijnen…  

Angelica Huston, die de Grand High Witch speelt in deze verfilming, moest acht uur in make-up doorbrengen om haar angstaanjagende look te bekomen. Het resultaat is er: Hustons opperheks zal voor altijd de overtuigende ster van menig nachtmerrie zijn!

“Saving the world from witches is a tall order for a boy they've turned into a mouse!” you can say that again… however it seems as if no task is too great for the young Luke. After the passing of his parents, Luke goes to live with his grandmother Helga. Helga turns out to be a retired witch hunter and tells Luke about witches and how he can recognise and avoid them. When Helga gets sick, she and Luke travel to a seaside hotel to recuperate. Also present at the hotel, is a coven of witches who are plotting to rid England of all children…

Angelica Huston, who plays the Grand High Witch in this adaptation, had to spend eight hours in make-up to achieve her creepy look. With great results: Huston’s grand witch will forever be the convincing star of many a nightmare!
