Some time in the near future, American secret agent Lemmy Caution travels to Alphaville, impersonating journalist Ivan Johnson of the Figaro-Pravda newspaper. His real mission is to find the missing agent Henri Dickinson and to convince the infamous Professor von Braun to go with him to Nueva York. Von Braun is actually Leonard Nosferatu and has created a powerful computer, the omnipresent Alpha 60, which designed the dystopian society of Alphaville, where love, conscience, poetry and emotion have been erased from the public awareness, and where words are removed systematically from the dictionary. Lemmy can count on the help of Natacha von Braun, the professor's daughter. He falls for her, but does it interfere with his mission?

From that starting point, Alpha 60 builds a society that 'makes sense' for the super computer. Jean-Luc Godard (À BOUT DE SOUFFLE) ventures with ALPHAVILLE on a tech noir within the Nouvelle Vague. This results in poetic dialogue, trenchcoats, dark rooms, and an emotionless agression of the characters that live in dystopian Alphaville and are being programmed according to the laws of Alpha 60's logic. ALPHAVILLE still keeps inspiring, unmistakably clear from success series like SEVERANCE and WESTWORLD, and is a troubling look from the past on the increasing trust we put in algorithms and LLMs in the present.
