“Architecture on Film” Gecureerd door VAi x De Cinema

ARCHITECTON is een prachtige poëtische studie van de gelauwerde filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky (GUNDA), waarin beton de hoofdrol speelt — als fundament van beschaving én als stille getuige van haar ondergang. Wat zegt onze manier van bouwen over wie we zijn? En wat blijft er over wanneer alles instort?

ARCHITECTON is de openingsfilm van de hoofdtentoonstelling van de Architectuurbiënnale van Venetië, getiteld Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective. De film reflecteert op de cyclus van bouwmaterialen en hun relatie met de natuur.

In hypnotiserende beelden reist Kossakovsky langs oude ruïnes, door aardbevingen verwoeste steden in Turkije en recent gebombardeerde gebouwen in Oekraïne. Hij volgt architect Michele De Lucchi wiens radicale idee – een magische cirkel waar geen mens mag komen, als teken van respect voor de natuur – centraal staat in deze bezwerende reflectie op architectuur, natuur en beschaving.

ARCHITECTON is a beautifully poetic study of the awarded filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky (GUNDA) where concrete plays the main part — as the foundation of civilisation and as a silent witness of her downfall. What does our way of building say about who we are? And what remains if everything collapses?

ARCHITECTON is the opening movie of the Venice Architecture Biennale’s main exhibition, titled Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective. It reflects on the life cycles of building materials and their relationship with nature.

In hypnotic images, Kossakovsky travels along old ruins, Turkish cities ruined by earthquakes and recently bombarded buildings in Ukraine. He follows architect Michele De Lucchi, whose radical idea – a magic circle where no one is allowed, as a sign of respect for nature – is central in this mesmerising reflection on architecture, nature and civilisation.
