RE/SCORED
RE/SCORED is een samenwerking tussen De Cinema en De Studio waarin film en muziek elkaar opnieuw uitvinden. In de cinema- of concertzaal nodigen we muzikanten en componisten uit om een nieuwe soundtrack te creëren voor films uit het rijke filmcanon – van cultklassiekers tot historische meesterwerken en stille filmjuwelen. Het resultaat is een eigenwijze mengelmoes van eclectische muziek en beeld, waarbij vergeten of verrassende titels een nieuw muzikaal leven krijgen.
Dit najaar maken we een zintuiglijke reis langs Alejandro Jodorowsky’s psychedelische meesterwerk THE HOLY MOUNTAIN (1973), een hallucinante, visueel overrompelende trip vol symboliek en mystiek, live heruitgevonden door saxofonist en componist Mathias De Craene. We herontdekken ook Lois Webers sociaal bewogen stille film SHOES (1916), een rauw en ongefilterd portret van armoede en overlevingsdrang door een van de vroege pioniers van de cinema. Ook Eleuterio Rodolfi’s THE LAST DAYS OF POMPEII (1913) krijgt een nieuwe klankwereld: een vroege epische spektakelfilm waarin de ondergang van Pompeii tot leven komt met grootse decors en indrukwekkende massa-scènes.
Verder brengen we Fritz Langs DER MÜDE TOD (1921), een expressionistisch meesterwerk over liefde, dood en opoffering waarin de visuele fantasie geen grenzen kent. Daarna volgt Dorothy Arzner’s sprankelende GET YOUR MAN (1927), een romantische komedie over een vrouw die vastbesloten is haar geliefde te veroveren – met humor, lef en een flinke dosis pit. Ook ons in-house drag queen collectief Send in the Clowns stopt met haar wervelende drag performances gevestigde filmtitels in een nieuw jasje. In januari lipsynchen en dansen ze mee met kerstklassieker THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993). Tot slot wordt Dziga Vertovs MAN WITH A MOVIE CAMERA (1929) opnieuw tot leven gewekt met muziek van instrumentalist Dijf Sanders, die het revolutionaire filmexperiment over het ritme van de stad en de kracht van het medium een eigentijds geluid geeft.
En onze vaste muzikale waarden gitarist Menno Buggenhout, pianisten Hilde Nasch en Noah Vanden Abeele staan opnieuw klaar om live soundtracks te brengen bij onze klassieke meesterwerken.
RE/SCORED is een alternatieve reis door het filmcanon, waar beeld en geluid elkaar uitdagen en versterken.

RE/SCORED is a collaboration between De Cinema and De Studio in which film and music reinvent each other. In the cinema or concert hall, musicians and composers are invited to create a brand-new soundtrack for films from the rich film canon – ranging from cult classics to historical masterpieces and silent film gems. The result is an idiosyncratic blend of eclectic music and moving images, in which forgotten or unexpected titles are given a new musical life.
This autumn we take you on a sensory journey through Alejandro Jodorowsky’s psychedelic masterpieceTHE HOLY MOUNTAIN (1973), a hallucinatory, visually overwhelming trip full of symbolism and mysticism, reimagined live by saxophonist and instrumentalist Mathias De Craene. We rediscover Lois Weber’s socially engaged silent film SHOES (1916), a raw and unflinching portrait of poverty and survival, told by one of cinema’s true pioneers. Eleuterio Rodolfi’s THE LAST DAYS OF POMPEII (1913) also gets a brand-new soundscape – an early epic spectacle in which the destruction of Pompeii comes to life with grand sets and breathtaking crowd scenes.
We then present Fritz Lang’s DER MÜDE TOD (1921), an expressionist masterpiece about love, death, and sacrifice, where visual fantasy knows no bounds. Dorothy Arzner’s sparkling romantic comedy GET YOUR MAN (1927) follows a woman determined to win the man she loves, with humour, boldness, and a healthy dose of wit. Our in-house drag queen collective Send in the Clowns also gives established film titles a dazzling new twist with their vibrant drag performances. In January, they will lip-sync and dance along to the Christmas classic THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993) during a matinee screening. Finally, Dziga Vertov’s MAN WITH A MOVIE CAMERA (1929) is brought back to life with music by instrumentalist Dijf Sanders, giving this revolutionary cinematic experiment about the rhythm of the city and the power of the medium a contemporary pulse.
Our regular valued musicians, guitarist Menno Buggenhout, and pianists Hilde Nasch and Noah Vanden Abeele, are ready to compose a live soundtrack for our classic masterpieces as well.
