Nog voor de Zweedse Roy Andersson bekend raakte met zijn strak georchestreerde en cynische taferelen in SONGS FROM THE SECOND FLOOR (2000) en YOU, THE LIVING (2007), maakte hij het zonovergoten en zachte A SWEDISH LOVE STORY.

Deze romantische film brengt de kalverliefde tussen twee tieners teder in beeld, terwijl op de achtergrond volwassenen worstelen met de sleur van het leven. Als verliefd stel geven de pubers alleen maar om zichzelf, onbewust van de grote-mensen-problemen om hen heen. In groot contrast met Anderssons latere en meer astandelijke werk stelen hier vooral de prachige close-ups van Jörgen Persson de show, net als het innemende en prille spel van hoofdacteurs Rolf Sohlmn en Ann-Sofie Kylin.

Even before Sweden’s Roy Andersson became famous for his tightly orchestrated and cynical scenery in SONGS FROM THE SECOND FLOOR (2000) and YOU, THE LIVING (2007), he made the sun-drenched and gentle A SWEDISH LOVE STORY.

This romantic film tenderly portrays the puppy love between two teenagers, while in the background, adults struggle with the drudgery of life. As a couple deeply in love, the adolescents care only about themselves, oblivious to the problems surrounding them. In stark contrast to Anderson’s later and more austere work, Jörgen Persson's stunning close-ups steal the show, as do the engaging performances of lead actors Rolf Sohlmn and Ann-Sofie Kylin.

A SWEDISH LOVE STORY is part of De Cinema’s summer programme ETERNAL SUMMER, ENDLESS NIGHTS, in which sunlit discoveries are contrasted with the inciting hedonism of the night.
