Paul mijmert over zijn kindertijd in Roubaix, over zijn ouders, over die schoolreis naar de Sovjet-Unie toen hij zijn identiteit uitleende aan een ander, over zijn studententijd in Parijs… Maar Paul denkt vooral terug aan Esther, zijn grote jeugdliefde, die nooit helemaal uit zijn gedachten is verdwenen.

In aanwezigheid van regisseur Arnaud Desplechin, die de film zal voorzien van een inleiding, en na de film in gesprek zal gaan met Adrian Martin. Nadien wordt in het café een drankje aangeboden om het Zomerfilmcollege in te luiden.

Paul reminisces about his childhood in Roubaix, about his parents, about that school trip to the Soviet Union when he lent his identity to another person, about his college years in Paris… But above all, Paul remembers his time with Esther, the great love of his youth, who has never really left his mind.
